PI Li Cai at UCLA CRESST (Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards, and Student Testing) is conducting a study on civic discourse and reasoning in upper elementary classrooms (Grades 3-6). Researchers will observe classroom lessons and discussions for teachers who are participating in the study. Researchers may ask students a question about their classroom work. Classroom discussions may be recorded on video for analysis. In addition, student work for civics lessons may be collected for the study.
Students will not be asked to do anything in addition to their normal classwork. Any identifying information on artifacts such as names will be removed prior to analysis. The goal of this study is to gain insights to inform future curriculum development and ways to capture student understanding at the Lab School and for other elementary students. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about this study, you can contact Christine Ong at ong@cresst.org.
